The UMD Libraries is pleased to announce a new campus-based Open Access Publishing Fund to support UMD faculty and students who wish to make their research findings immediately and freely available to the public. Established as a recommendation of the 2013 Report of the Joint Provost/Senate Open Access Task Force and funded by the UMD Libraries, the fund will help pay for article processing charges for articles authored by UMD faculty and students, and accepted for publication in eligible open-access, peer-reviewed journals to cover fees when funds from any other source are unavailable.
Publishing in open access journals makes your work much more broadly accessible to an international audience than journals that require an individual or library subscription, particularly in the current era of uncertainty in library budgets and serials cancellations. The effect is not unnoticed among funding agencies, which are increasingly requiring that research they fund be made publically available by open access.
Eligibility requirements and guidelines for the Open Access Publishing Fund, along with an online application form, are available athttps://www.lib.umd.edu/oa/openaccessfund.
Please contact Terry Owen (email@example.com) if you have any questions about the fund.
